Higar was established in 1973 as a partnership between David Hicks and Fred Woolgar hence the name Higar. Originally the business served other local Aerospace companies and then became a design and manufacturer of special purpose machines for the food and packaging industry which was the basis behind the Automation of the original Higar Engineering & Automation Co Ltd. After a number of years David Hicks a toolmaker by trade decided to focus on the manufacture of machined components for the Aerospace market.

Higar Engineering & Automation Ltd as formally known developed to around an £8 million turnover business employing some 110 staff and servicing the Aerospace, Telecommunications and Semi Conductor Market. Having developed the business back from a £2.5 million turnover post 9/11 to today’s £4 million the business is now under the Hicks family majority control: David Hicks (Chairman) and Russell Hicks (MD) along with a number of employee shareholders.

Today the company employees 55 people with a turnover of £3.8 million.
